Lemnos was renowned since the days of the Trojan War for its unique wine. This tradition was maintained during the classical period and was strengthened with the arrival of refugees from Asia Minor in 1922, who were famous vine growers that brought their own knowledge to the island and elevated the quality of the wine as well as other products of the vine (tsipouro, raisins, grape molasses).
Wine, tsipouro, petimezi... the famous products of the vine.

Starting from the village of Romanou, we see the unique "gouves" or "linoi" of Lemnos, underground constructions where the fermentation of grape must takes place, a practice that continues even today. Gouves can also be found in Repanidi, which you encounter by following the route through a characteristic agricultural landscape of Lemnos. We end up in Kontopouli where the Lyristis lacario (traditional distillery) can be visited and offers the double distilled traditional tsipouro, with or without aniseed.
